Worked like a charm. I am getting the unable to save display setting, and a message to change the settings. From what I've been able to find from searching it seems that this is normally a laptop issue but I'm running a desktop so I can't figure out what's wrong. Something has changed.

Have you tried the "Detect" and "Identify" buttons to see if it can figure out that the USB display is not hooked up anymore?
