I'm trying to follow the steps but nothing is working. Much appreciated someone putting in the time and effort to help complete strangers. I mention this last because even though Windows is supposed to automatically recognize the USB controllers, hubs and devices automatically, it can sometimes fail and you'll end up with no USB So is this just another of the many issues that Win 10 has yet to resolve?

An easy way to scan if the drivers are out of date is using Driver Talent, which could detect the drivers automatically and download/ install the newest drivers with clicks. So the problem seems to be between the HP laptop and the EHD, something seems to have gone wrong. To fix this problem, simply reformat the NTFS partition as FAT32.

The front USB has a tiny kit but has separated cables for two USB slots to connect on motherboard. I have installed the drive in another box think and now works just fine.
