Step two worked perfectly. the computer is working just fine and the system of my notebook wont install or download any update so far. What was eventually decided - my Vista had, for whatever reason, become corrupted. Exasperating to say the least (my history with Vista in a nutshell!).Perhaps my VISTA is corrupt, also?
