Deleting or renaming the Download folder leaves the new updates nowhere to go to be saved so I wouldn't recommend it. Anyway, I THINK things are finally working the way they should I guess I'll see if any other updates keep showing up. I had to use system restore repeatedly. Ask ! what did work was to download and run windows update agent, I let it run for 4 hours before it succeeded getting and update past sp3, and now it works perfectly.
